On 6th to 8th August 2019, seven undergraduate students (Aiza Nur Batrisya Zainal Abidin, Fatimah Mohd Hassan Bashari, Tsuwaibatul Aslamiyah Jamalullail, Ahmad Irfan Ahmad Zaidi, Nor Sharmin Sazali, Nurul Syazana Hanini Mohd Tarmizi and Muhammad Zakwan Mohamad Zakaria) with the led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norhayati Hussain from Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM) have represented UPM in Melaka International Intellectual Exhibition (MIIEx) 2019 with the theme “Humanising Technology: Enable the Disabled”.
The competition was held yearly at Uitm Melaka Branch organized by UiTM Melaka and Kolej Professional MARA with an ideal platform for lecturers, administrative staff, students, and public to showcase and commercialize their products or prototypes as well as novel ideas. There were four different categories which includes Innovation (153 participants), Invention (27 participant), Design (10 participants), Nutrition (11 participants) with a total of 201 participants from schools, agencies (TNB), local (UPM, UM, USM, UTHM, UiTM, UTP and UMP) and international universities (Iran, Indonesia, Arab Saudi). There were two sessions to accommodate the whole categories of food and non-food base.
We has successfully won Gold prize under the category of Innovation with the title of “3 In 1 Pineapple Core Based Meat Tenderizer”. The innovative product named as “Pinezer” is a meat marinade from pineapple core mixed with spices. It has incredible attributes such as tenderize the meat, increase the juiciness of tough meat cuts, remove undesirable odor and improve meat color.
