Academic Collaboration between FFMS Universitas Brawijaya and FSTM Universiti Putra Malaysia through Student Mobility and Joint Research Program

SERDANG, 3 NOVEMBER 2025 – The Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), proudly welcomes three undergraduate students from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FFMS), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Indonesia, under the Universitas Brawijaya Student Academic Research Scheme (UB STARS) Program, Batch 5, 2025.

Welcoming Future Scientists!
Students from Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia, begin their one-month research attachment at the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, UPM, under the UB STARS Student Mobility Program 2025.

This one-month Student Mobility and Collaborative Research Program, held from 3 to 29 November 2025, aims to strengthen academic cooperation between UPM and UB through joint research and supervision in functional food development.

Guidance and Mentorship

Supervised by Dr. Nurul Shazini Ramli (FSTM UPM) and Mr. Heder Djamaludin (FFMS UB), students gain valuable experience in laboratory research and analytical techniques.

The program is jointly supervised by Dr. Nurul Shazini Ramli, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Food Science, FSTM UPM, and Mr. Heder Djamaludin, S.Pd., M.Si., from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Universitas Brawijaya. This collaboration provides an excellent platform for students to enhance research competency and gain practical experience in functional food innovation, particularly in kombucha fortified with Spirulina platensis.

Hands-on Functional Food Research
UB students and FSTM researchers collaborating in the lab on optimizing the formulation of functional beverages enriched with Spirulina platensis.

The participating students are Muhamad Alvin Jauhari, Dera Ailsa Renanda Utari, and Chosa Daffa Ramadhan. During their attachment at FSTM UPM, they will engage in hands-on laboratory work, focusing on the optimization of functional beverage formulation and development, nutritional analysis, and antioxidant assays.

Science in Action
The team conducts nutritional and antioxidant analyses to evaluate the potential of kombucha-based functional drinks.

This initiative reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to fostering academic excellence, research collaboration, and cross-cultural learning, while paving the way for future partnerships in co-supervision, joint publications, and advanced research training in food and marine sciences.

Bridging Borders through Research

This mobility program strengthens academic collaboration between UPM and Universitas Brawijaya, fostering innovation and cross-cultural learning in food science and technology. melalui Penyelidikan
