BSOPM STUDENTS’ INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO THE VITAGEN FACTORY

Petaling Jaya, 29 January 2026 - A total of 18 second-year students from the Bachelor of Food Manufacturing Operations Science (BSOPM) program conducted an industrial visit to Contra Enterprise Sdn. Bhd. (Vitagen Malaysia) in Petaling Jaya. Accompanied by Dr. Nurul Hawa Ahmad for the Microbiology and Sanitation in Food Processing course, the visit aimed to provide students with exposure to real-world food industry operations—specifically regarding hygiene, food safety, and sanitation—to align with the course’s learning outcomes.

Vitagen Malaysia is a manufacturer of probiotic cultured milk drinks, which involves the use of beneficial microorganisms in product production. Therefore, this visit was highly relevant in helping students understand microbiological control, hygiene, and food safety within an actual industrial environment.

The session began with an introduction to the company and Vitagen products by a company representative, Ms. Zaihani, followed by a video presentation on the production process. Subsequently, the students were taken on a tour of the processing plant to observe the manufacturing process firsthand, including the hygiene standards and quality control measures practiced by the company.

The visit continued with a Q&A session, giving students the opportunity to interact directly with industry professionals. Vitagen representatives also distributed souvenirs, and a group photo session was held before the visit concluded.

In conclusion, this industrial visit provided meaningful exposure for students to understand the application of microbiology and food sanitation in a real-world industry. The knowledge gained enhances their understanding of the vital role microbiological control and sanitation practices play in guaranteeing food safety and quality.
