Gua Musang, 14 December 2025 – The Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), successfully organized the C.A.R.E. Foodspace @ GUAMSS programme on 13th to 14th December 2025, as part of experiential learning for the undergraduate course FSM4507 Foodservice Facilities, Design and Layout.

The 2-days programme engaged 28 undergraduate students under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Farah Adibah Che Ishak, with a primary focus on the evaluation of layout design and operational flow within the school’s dining hall and canteen facilities. Through this initiative, students applied theoretical knowledge in foodservice facility planning, hygiene, user movement, and operational efficiency within a real-world educational environment, reinforcing industry-relevant competencies.

A central component of the programme was its emphasis on knowledge transfer from the university to the school community. This was achieved through five interactive, game-based experiential learning stations involving 140 Form One students of Sekolah Menengah Sains Gua Musang (GUAMSS). The activities addressed main key areas related to food education and dining etiquette, delivered through engaging and age-appropriate approaches that promoted active learning.

UPM students of Bachelor of Science in Food Service Management with honors (BSPPMdK) demonstrated a high level of professionalism, teamwork, and commitment throughout the programme, particularly in their roles as facilitators and mentors to the school students. Their ability to communicate effectively, manage learning activities, and guide younger learners reflected the readiness of UPM graduates to apply academic knowledge in meaningful community contexts. The programme also provided valuable opportunities for UPM students to strengthen leadership, collaboration, empathy, and social responsibility.

Feedback from GUAMSS students and school representatives was highly positive, with strong participation and improved awareness of safe and responsible food practices observed. As a tangible outcome, 10 educational posters focusing on food hygiene, sanitation, and dining etiquette were presented to the school for continued use within its dining facilities. The successful implementation of C.A.R.E. Foodspace @ GUAMSS highlights UPM’s commitment to experiential learning, effective knowledge transfer, and strategic partnerships that contribute to sustainable community development and holistic student education.
