RAWANG, 3 JULY 2025 – A total of 21 second-year students from the Bachelor of Science in Home Science (BSPRT) programme, Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), participated in an educational visit to MONIN Asia KL on 3 July 2025. The visit was conducted as part of the teaching and learning enhancement activity for the FSM3303 Basic Food Preparation Practical course and was led by the Course Coordinator, Dr. Muhammad Rezza Zainal Abidin from the Department of Food Service Management, Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), UPM.

Also present were Dr. Nurul Hanisah Juhari, co-lecturer of the FSM3303 course, along with three other lecturers from FSTM: Dr. Khairun Najihah Sabri (Department of Food Service Management), Dr. Nurul Izzah Khalid, and Dr. Asyrul Izhar Abu Bakar (Department of Food Technology), who provided academic support throughout the programme.

The main objective of the visit was to provide students with early exposure to creative mocktail preparation techniques through an exclusive demonstration by an internationally certified mixologist from MONIN. This experience is highly relevant in preparing students for the upcoming FSM3401 Restaurant Service course next semester, in which students are required to create and serve a creative beverage menu as part of the course assessment.

Firsthand exposure to real industry practices not only deepens students’ understanding of classroom knowledge application but also fosters innovation and creativity in developing new recipes that align with industry standards.

Beyond enhancing student skill development, the visit also supports FSTM’s efforts in strengthening strategic collaborations with industry partners. MONIN Asia KL is currently FSTM’s industry partner through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that is pending final approval by the University Management Committee. This MoU, spearheaded by Dr. Muhammad Rezza Zainal Abidin, is expected to open up broader collaboration opportunities in research, industrial training, technology transfer, and expertise sharing in the food and beverage technology sector.

As a global leader in beverage innovation based on syrups and flavourings, MONIN Asia KL is equipped with modern manufacturing and production technologies aligned with FSTM’s areas of specialisation. Hence, such visits reflect the faculty’s continued commitment to bridging academic curriculum with real industry demands, and to preparing students to embrace challenges and opportunities in today’s food and service sectors.
