Bogor, Indonesia, 28 July – 5 August 2025 – The summer course titled "COFFEECRACK: Unveiling Indonesia's Bean to Cup Journey Through Science and Technology" was successfully organized by the Department of Food Science and Technology, IPB University, Bogor, Indonesia. The seven-day programme aimed to expose participants to the latest developments in science, technology, and sustainable innovation along the entire coffee production chain.

Three lecturers from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nur Hanani Zainal Abedin, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Zunairah Wan Ibadullah, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hanan Hasan participated in the programme to gain deeper knowledge in coffee processing, preservation, product development, and to foster academic collaboration between IPB and UPM.

Through this programme, participants gained insights into the Indonesian coffee industry and hands-on skills such as coffee bean roasting, sensory evaluation, exploring various local coffee types, as well as the potential of specialty coffees like kopi luwak and fermented coffee. The course also emphasized sustainable practices and technological innovations to support a more ethical and eco-friendly coffee industry. Both thermal and non-thermal preservation technologies were shared as methods to reduce waste and extend product shelf life.

The strong collaboration between the participating universities is expected to spark more high-impact coffee research. Focus areas include quality improvement, sustainable farming practices, development of high-value products, and positive socio-economic impacts for coffee growers, all key elements for advancing a more resilient and progressive coffee industry.
