Muar, 7 May 2025 - A total of 61 food operators from JMM Cookies Sdn. Bhd. have attended a full-day food safety training that was held at Muar Traders Hotel, Johor. The participants were divided into two groups, and each group attended the training session either on the 6th or 7th of May, 2025.
The food safety training was conducted by Dr. Nurul Hawa Ahmad from the Food Science Department and Dr. Sarina Abdul Halim Lim from the Food Technology Department, Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), UPM. This training has been coordinated through close liaison with Mr. Nor Izwan Hakimi Nor Azmi from the Centre of Industry Relations and Networks (CiRNet), UPM, and Dr. Sarina from FSTM, UPM.
The training began with a pre-test session, prior to an ice-breaking activity moderated by Dr. Sarina. Dr. Hawa then introduced the concept of food safety, followed by the importance of maintaining personal and workplace hygiene, an overview of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), prevention of cross-contamination, and best practices of handwashing during food handling.
Between sessions, Dr. Sarina coordinated interactive group activities to stimulate engaging discussion on implementing the best food safety practices in their day-to-day routines at cookies production lines. This training was also attended by Ms. Chang Hui Qi, the Quality Assurance Manager at JMM Cookies Sdn. Bhd. At the end of the training, participants were required to complete a post-test to evaluate their knowledge of food safety practices during cookies production.
