SERDANG, 18 July 2026 - The Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) organized the prestigious Food Safety Management Training 2026 (HACCP & Auditing), which took place from July 13 to 18, 2026. The program was held at Food 6, Faculty of Food Science and Technology, UPM.
This training program is part of the Project for Human Resource Development in Food Related Areas through Partnership with Universities in ASEAN Region (HRD Project) – Phase 4. It received full funding from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), Japan, in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat, and also involved support from the Department of Agriculture Malaysia.
According to the Program Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noor Azira Abdul Mutalib, the main objective of this program is to ensure strict compliance with global food safety laws and standards while maintaining high production quality.
Through this program, participants gained comprehensive exposure to the implementation of the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) system, from hazard identification to effective control measures. In addition, participants were equipped with the skills to conduct internal audits.
The six-day training was conducted by a lineup of international food safety experts, namely Prof. Dr. Daisuke Hamanaka from Kagoshima University, Japan, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Phunsiri Suthiluk from Mae Fah Luang University, Thailand. The program was attended by 30 participants consisting of postgraduate students, food technology officers, researchers, industry players, as well as officers from government agencies and the private sector.
The program was patronized by the Dean of FSTM, Prof. Dr. Anis Shobirin Meor Hussin, assisted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ungku Fatimah Ungku Zainal Abidin as advisor, alongside a dedicated faculty committee for technical, logistics, food, and publicity to ensure the training ran smoothly and achieved maximum impact. Carrying UPM's slogan "Berilmu Berbakti" (With Knowledge We Serve), this initiative is expected to continue empowering food safety, fostering innovation, and improving the quality of human life in line with global standards.
