7 October 2024 – Dr. Nurul Hawa Ahmad from the Department of Food Science, Faculty of Food Science and Technology has delivered a guest lecture on “Microbiological Predictive Modeling for Food Safety Risk Assessment: State of the Art and Way Forward” at RIT Georgia Gosnell Fall Seminar Series. This 1-hour seminar session was organized by the Gosnell School of Life Sciences, College of Science (COS), RIT.

Dr. Hawa covered the concept of predictive modeling, available software, and her published works in predictive modeling. During her lecture, Dr. Hawa also shared valuable reflections on her academic journey and introduced postgraduate programs offered by the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, UPM, to biotechnology/bioinformatic undergraduate students and COS faculty members.

On her one-day guided tour, Dr. Hawa visited several research and teaching laboratories, RIT interactive library, Student Hall for Exploration & Development (SHED) building, RIT Global Village, and Student Alumni Union center. Dr. Hawa also engaged with the undergraduates during a lunch session. The visit was hosted by Prof. Dr. Michael Savka and his colleagues including Dr. Andre Hudson (Dean of COS), Dr. Kate Wright (School Head), Dr. Dawn Carter, Dr. Eli Borrego, Dr. Marry-Anne Courtney, Dr. Elena Lopez Peredo, Dr. Dawn Carter, Dr. Stefan Schulze and Dr. Julia Thomas.

Dr. Hawa is RIT COS Alumni’10, who was mentored by Dr. Savka for her undergraduate research project in quorum sensing.
