Jackfruit Seed Spread Emerges Champion at the 2026 New Product Launch Event

SERDANG, 1 July 2026 – The JackArina product, a Jackfruit Seed Spread, was crowned the overall champion of the 2026 New Product Launch Event organized by the Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

The innovative product, developed by Third-Year Bachelor of Food Science and Technology with Honours (BSTMdK) students, successfully won over the panel of judges with the creation of a spread made from jackfruit seeds, thereby adding value to an agricultural by-product that is often underutilized.

Jackfruit Seed Spread is made from jackfruit seeds processed into a smooth and creamy spread. This product is enriched with vanilla extract and soy milk powder, while its natural golden color is derived from red palm stearin without the use of artificial coloring. Made entirely from plant-based ingredients, JackArina is vegan-friendly, cholesterol-free, and contains zero trans fat. Bearing the slogan "Save the Seed, Spread the Love," this product reflects a commitment to sustainability practices by utilizing jackfruit seeds as the main ingredient.

In addition to the champion title won by JackArina, the runner-up spot was claimed by Boba-Go, an instant boba made from banana peels that utilizes agricultural by-products as its primary ingredient. Third place was secured by AvoBites, a chocolate-coated avocado seed snack that offers a nutritious and sustainable snack alternative. The success of these three products reflects the theme "Food Innovation: Where Creativity Meets Commercialization" by highlighting food innovations that combine creativity, sustainability, and commercialization potential.
