Serdang, 31 July 2025 – The Faculty of Food Science and Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), proudly hosted an official visit by a distinguished delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST China) to the China-Malaysia Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Oil Processing and Safety, located at UPM.

The delegation from MOST China was led by Mr. Sun Jian, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, accompanied by Mr. Li Hongwei (Acting Director), Ms. Zhong Wenyan (Senior Consultant), as well as representatives from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia, Mr. Zhao Xiangdong (Counselor) and Mr. Zhang Tianhang (Second Secretary).

Also in attendance were representatives from Jinan University, China, Prof. Dr. Wang Yong (Dean of the International School), Prof. Dr. Gao Hao, and Mr. Shu Zhan, reflecting the growing academic collaboration between Jinan University and UPM.

From the Malaysian government, Mr. Muhammad Kamal bin Zulkifle from the International Division, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), was present to represent MOSTI’s support for this bilateral initiative.

Representing UPM were prominent researchers including Prof. Dr. Anis Shobirin (Dean of the Faculty of Food Science and Technology), Prof. Dr. Nazamid Saari, Prof. Dr. Tan Chin Ping, Prof. Dr. Lai Oi Ming, Prof. Dr. Faridah Abas, Dr. Tan Tai Boon, and Dr. Masni Mat Yusoff.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the progress of the Joint Laboratory and to further strengthen trilateral collaboration under the Belt and Road framework. The programme began with welcoming remarks by Prof. Dr. Anis Shobirin, followed by a detailed progress presentation by Prof. Dr. Tan Chin Ping, highlighting key milestones and achievements, current research initiatives, and future directions.

Mr. Sun Jian then delivered his remarks, commending the collaborative efforts and reaffirming MOST China's commitment to deepening scientific partnerships with Malaysia.
