TOKYO, 3 July 2026 – The Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) recently sent its sole representative to The 25th International Students Summit on Food, Agriculture and Environment (ISS) 2026. The annual conference was held from 30 June to 3 July 2026 at the Tokyo University of Agriculture (Tokyo NODAI), Japan, with UPM represented by FSTM student, Kalsom Aliah binti Abdul Hadi.

Participating under the supervision of Dr. Nor Afizah binti Mustapha, Kalsom Aliah delivered a presentation titled "From University to Community: Food Science and Technology through the Practical Workshop" during the Group C discussion session. The presentation aligned with this year's theme, "Pushing Boundaries: Inclusive Activities for Community Welfare".

The project highlighted a community-based learning initiative conducted by Semester 5 students of the Bachelor of Food Manufacturing Operations Science program. The collaborative activities with a local school community served as a hands-on medium to raise public awareness regarding food science and technology, specifically focusing on food safety through a practical workshop approach.

Beyond the presentation, Kalsom Aliah actively took part in global discussion sessions alongside delegates representing 23 countries and regions, as well as 26 partner universities worldwide. The platform allowed participants to share insights on various student-led initiatives covering agriculture, food security, environmental sustainability, and community welfare.

The insights and experience gained from the summit are expected to help strengthen the future implementation of community outreach projects at FSTM. This participation also aims to inspire more FSTM students to get involved in impactful community service programs while elevating UPM’s visibility on the international stage.

The event officially concluded with a closing ceremony held at Enomoto Hall, Tokyo NODAI. Through this summit, the future food science professional successfully gained valuable industry insights, improved cross-cultural communication skills, and expanded community engagement networks for the future.
