Strengthening Food Safety Research: NCFS and UPM Collaborate on Scientific Writing Workshop

Sepang, 13 May 2025 - The National Centre for Food Safety (NCFS) is a scientific arm under the Food Safety and Quality Programme, Ministry of Health Malaysia which functions to provide scientific data, specifically to ensure that food safety is guaranteed along the food supply chain in addition to strengthening control actions and mitigation strategies against risky food products. NCFS is also a centre of excellence for the national food safety agenda.

To strengthen the capabilities of NCFS officers in publishing scholarly and scientific journals in the field of food safety, NCFS has invited Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nik Iskandar Putra Samsudin from the Department of Food Science, Faculty of Food Science and Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia as a workshop speaker at the NCFS headquarters in Sepang, Selangor. This workshop was conducted in two sessions; Session 1 in April 2025 (manuscript production) and Session 2 in May 2025 (manuscript refinement).

Such programs should be continued in the future because they provide added value to relevant ministry officers in addition to creating a network of cooperation between higher education institutions and government agencies. The impact of this collaboration will not only benefit the parties involved, but will ultimately reach the people as the end consumers of the services provided by higher learning institutions and government agencies.
