Healthy Eating Campaign “You Are What You Eat: The Colours of Life 2023”

9th November 2023 - The Food Service and Management Department, Faculty of Science and Food Technology (FSTM) has collaborated with AEON CO. (M) BHD., A. Clouet & Co. company. (KL) Sdn. Bhd (Yu Meat) and the Nutrition Division, Public Health Department, Ministry of Health Malaysia in carrying out activities in conjunction with the Healthy Eating Campaign "You Are What You Eat: The Colors of Life 2023" which was held at Nutrihub AEON Mall Shah Alam, Selangor on November 9, 2023 (Thursday).

In this campaign, a total of 37 semester 7 students, BSPPM program participated in a plant-based healthy menu cooking competition and they were divided into 8 groups. The first place in the competition was won by the Kesum group who produced the menu "Kesum Pizza with Yumeat". Then the second place was won by the Scrumptious group with the menu "Yumeat Katsu Served with Banana Fettucine & Japanese Curry". The third place was won by the Ecoeaters.co group with the menu "Spaghetti Curry Bolognese Served with Yumeat MushoatBalls".

 

The involvement of BSPPM students in this program has had a positive impact on the character development, education and future career prospects of the students. In addition to being able to apply the knowledge that has been learned during lectures and laboratories. The implementation of this program can provide a transformative experience that further enriches the student's experience.

In this campaign, a total of 38 semester 2 students, BSPM program from the Department of Food Technology also prepared leaflets that could provide information to the general public about traditional Malaysian food based on vegetables with high dietary fiber. The reruai titled 'Traditional Foods with High Dietary Fibre' provides a video exhibition as well as 8 infographic posters that contain information about the history, nutrient content, and the relationship between nutrients and health for eight types of traditional foods, namely: Pecal Sayur, Tofu Sumbat, Sayur Lodeh, Sambal Tempoyak Wood Leaves, Losun, Yee Sang, Lei Cha and Green Bean Porridge. In addition, reruai visitors also have the chance to get a prize of a dragon fruit if they successfully answer quiz questions related to the traditional food using the Kahoot! application. A total of 38 visitors have successfully won the prize. This reruai was also visited by YB Dato Lukanisman who is the Malaysian Deputy Minister of Health. The information was given to him by the student in charge of the protest.
