Bukit Beruntung, 22 July 2025 - Microbiological food safety researchers from the Faculty of Food Science & Technology, UPM have visited molecular laboratories at Lab-Ind Resource (LIR) Sdn. Bhd., Bukit Beruntung, Selangor. The main purpose of the visit is to explore cutting-edge sequencing technologies used for Salmonella serotyping.
During the 1.5-hour visit, Mr. Robin Liew, the Business Development Director, explained that they provide services and consultancy on identification of pathogens in aquaculture, poultry, and feeds products. LIR also offers microbiome profiling services that may be used for tracing the source of contamination in the food processing facilities, whether the contaminant are persistent or sporadic strains. Service on authentication of food products was also conducted.
Dr. Nurul Hawa Ahmad was joined by Dr. Noor Azira Abdul Mutalib, and her three PhD candidates, Norfaziey Aini Sukarno, Lee Epeng, and Seow Wen Li. Faziey’s work is focusing on Salmonella spp. inactivation in edible bird’s nest, Lee Epeng is focusing on prevalence and microbiological risk assessment of Salmonella and Vibrio in seafoods and Seow Wen Li is focusing on prevalence and microbiological risk assessment of Salmonella in home-based foods.
