B-FLAKES TEAM AS RUNNER-UP IN

Melaka 19 December 2021 - Two Bachelor of Food Science and Technology (Year 4) students from the B-Flakes team booked success as runners-up for the Food and Beverage Category at the Closing Ceremony & Prize Giving Ceremony of the “National Micro Enterprise Pitching Competition (NMEPC)” at the National Level for 2021 that was held at the Chancellor's Hall, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).

 

The Closing Ceremony was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad, Minister of Higher Education, and the Most Honorable Datuk Seri Utama (Dr.) Hj Sulaiman Md. Ali, Chief Minister of Melaka. A group of students represented by Hong Cheng Yue and Adlina Jamaludin managed to captivate the judges with the idea of ​​a food product innovation called "B-Flakes", thus taking home the runner-up prize for the food and beverage category worth RM2,000 along with a plaque and certificates. B-Flakes are breakfast flakes made from banana peel.

 

"The innovation of breakfast flakes from banana skins is an initiative to reduce the production of food waste that leads to environmental pollution," Hong Cheng Yue said. Adlina Jamaludin added, "Banana peel has many benefits and has been proven through studies, so banana peel should be fully utilized".

 

The implementation of the "National Micro Enterprise Pitching Competition 2021" which is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) aims to provide exposure and encourage the establishment of companies based on technology and innovation among students.
