BSTM Students Champion the Palm-Based Food Product Development Competition

A group of final-year students from the Bachelor of Food Science and Technology has participated in the Palm-Based Food Product Development Competition held at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) under the CEO Day@UKM program. The competition is organized jointly between the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) which aims to give students the opportunity to generate new food product innovation ideas to promote the use of palm oil in the food industry.

 

The competition was judged by 4 judges who have a background as experts in the food industry and products consisting of representatives from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM), Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) and Munchy Food Industries Sdn Bhd. Universiti Putra Malaysia has sent 2 groups namely Totally Spice and Susu Indon.

 

Totally Spice, which produces chili and garlic flavored margarine, has successfully claimed the title of champion and brought home a prize amounting to RM1,500.00 in the Palm-Based Food Product Development Competition under the CEO Day@UKM program. The Totally Spice group was led by Afiefah binti Zulkifli and consisted of Nur Iman Saliha binti Jafri, Nur Mursyidah binti Md Zuki, Nurul Ashiqin binti Hishamuddin and Abdul Azim bin Ab Halim.

 

Next, Susu Indon, which produces almond-flavored milk using palm-based ingredients, has successfully won fourth place and brought home cash amounting to RM 600.00 in the Palm-Based Food Product Development Competition under the CEO Day@UKM program. The Indon Milk Group was led by Yohan Candra and consisted of Arkan Binatara Pratama and Asti Ardiyanti Kusumo.

 

Congratulations also went to the finalists of the Palm-Based Food Product Development Competition, namely Food Digger from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), Philadefy from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Kuala Pilah branch, and Palmind from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
