KUALA LUMPUR, 21 MAY 2026 - On Thursday, 21 May 2026, the FoodSmart Kids @ School Program was successfully conducted at SJK(C) Tai Thung with active participation from school children, teachers, university students, and industry collaborators.

Organised in association with the course subject FSM4706 Institutional Foodservice Management, this program provided students with valuable experiential learning opportunities in planning and managing foodservice activities within an institutional setting.

One of the key learning outcomes of the program was understanding the importance of meeting the different nutritional and service needs of specific population groups in institutional foodservice operations. Working with primary school children allowed students to appreciate how foodservice planning goes beyond food preparation — it also involves understanding age-appropriate nutritional requirements, food preferences, portion suitability, food safety, and effective engagement strategies within institutional environments such as schools.

Through this initiative, students were able to strengthen their practical skills in:

• Institutional foodservice planning and coordination
• Managing foodservice activities for school communities
• Teamwork, communication, and participant engagement
• Applying classroom knowledge in real-life institutional settings
• Understanding the role of foodservice in supporting child well-being and development

The program also featured interactive activities and engagement sessions that created a meaningful and enjoyable experience for the children while reinforcing the role of institutional foodservice in community settings.
