KUALA LUMPUR, 21 MAY 2026 – The Foodsmart Kids @ School Program was successfully conducted at SJK(C) Tai Thung with the active participation of school children, teachers, students from Foodservice and Management with Honors, and industry collaborators.
The program was organised in conjunction with the FSM4706 Institutional Foodservice Management course, in collaboration with WCT Holdings Berhad and Pasar Grub. This collaboration between academia and industry provided meaningful experiential learning opportunities for students to apply their knowledge and skills in institutional foodservice management within a real-world setting.
One of the key learning outcomes of the program was to understand the importance of addressing the diverse nutritional and service needs of specific target groups within institutional foodservice operations. Through their engagement with primary school children, students gained a deeper appreciation that foodservice planning extends beyond food preparation. It also requires careful consideration of age-appropriate nutritional requirements, portion suitability, food safety, food acceptance, and the overall well-being of consumers.
The program also featured a variety of interactive activities that created a fun and meaningful learning experience for the school children while providing practical exposure for students to better understand the role of institutional foodservice in meeting the needs of different consumer groups.
Our sincere appreciation and gratitude go to the management and school community of SJK(C) Tai Thung, as well as our industry collaborators, WCT Holdings Berhad and Pasar Grub, for their invaluable support and commitment in making this program a success. It is our hope that strategic collaborations between universities, schools, and industry partners will continue to flourish in the effort to develop competent, competitive, and socially responsible graduates who are responsive to the needs of society.
