FROM SEQUENCING TO SOLUTIONS: THE ROLE OF MICROBIOME PROFILING IN MODERN FOOD SCIENCES

Serdang, 10 September 2025 – A total of 16 attendees have joined a lecture on the application of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). The lecture was delivered by Dr. Han Ming Gan, who is a former academician at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Deakin University, Australia, and now the CEO of Patriot Biotech Sdn. Bhd. This lecture was intended to give a fundamental knowledge and improve the understanding about microbiome profiling for food innovation as well as food safety.

At the beginning of the lecture, Dr. Gan shared his first research experience in microbiology as an undergraduate student, and how his passion has developed and transformed along the way. He then uncovered the concept of NGS, followed by the roles of NGS in monitoring desirable microbial changes through time versus treatment, detecting unwanted microorganims and in designing a starter culture.
