Insights on Slaughtering Practices and Meat Quality Highlighted at MIHREC 2025

Serdang, 20 September 2025 - The Institute of Halal Product Research (IPPH), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), hosted the Pre & Post Conference Program of the Malaysia International Halal Research & Education 2025 (MIHREC 2025) from 18 – 20 September 2025 at the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, UPM.

As part of this distinguished program, Dr. Asyrul Izhar Abu Bakar from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, UPM, was invited as a guest speaker. He delivered his presentation in Session 3: “Effects of Handling and Slaughtering Practices on Meat Quality, Food Safety, and Economic Value.”

His talk, titled “Implications of Slaughtering on Meat Quality,” explored the vital connections between slaughtering methods, meat quality, food safety and economic sustainability. The session also emphasized the importance of aligning Shariah compliance, animal welfare, and modern food quality assurance which is timely and relevant discussion in today’s global halal industry.

This engagement highlighted Dr. Asyrul’s expertise and active contribution to the field of meat technology and food processing, while also reaffirming UPM’s commitment to advancing halal research, education, and international excellence.
