MS 1514:2022 Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Understanding & Implementing Training

SERDANG, 30 April 2025 – The Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with UPM Cirnet and SIRIM Academy, successfully organized a training program titled “MS 1514:2022 Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) – Understanding & Implementing” conducted online from 28 to 29 April 2025.

This event marked the second time the Department of Food Science at FSTM organized GMP training, now rebranded as GMP@foodtechUPM. Following the success of the first in-person session, the second edition was held virtually and attracted a diverse range of participants from the industry, academia, research institutions, as well as local and international students.

The training began with a welcoming and opening speech by the Program Director, Dr. Sarina Abdul Halim Lim from the Department of Food Technology. The session was then led by experienced trainer and auditor, Pn. Lizawati Mohamad Darwi, who covered fundamental topics such as Hazards and Contamination, Premises Design & Facilities, Equipment, Control of Operation including Allergen Management, Incoming Materials, Packaging, and Water.

The second day continued with sessions on Maintenance and Cleaning & Sanitation Program, Chemical Control, Pest Control & Waste Management, and Personnel Hygiene and Training. The training was further enriched by another seasoned trainer from SIRIM, Puan Siti Nur Hidayah Jaafar, who discussed Product Information and Traceability, Transportation, Product Complaints & Recalls, Internal Inspection and Review, and the GMP Certification Process.

Participants gave highly positive feedback, praising the practical guidance provided on implementing the standard, preparing documentation, and going through the certification process.The sharing of experiences and case studies from various food commodities added tremendous value to the knowledge exchange during the program.

The success of this program reflects FSTM’s continuous commitment to building strategic networks between the university and the food industry. Such collaborations are crucial in facilitating knowledge transfer, enhancing the safety and quality of local food products, and supporting the expansion of their market at both national and international levels.

In addition, the training program contributes significantly to improving Malaysia’s food security, aligning with the aspiration of FSTM and UPM to remain at the forefront of food safety and technology. The GMP@foodtechUPM series will continue as part of FSTM’s broader mission to promote high standards in food manufacturing across Malaysia and beyond.
