Serdang, 4 June 2025 – The Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), UPM once again organized the Smart Scientist school holiday programme on 3 and 4 June 2025. The programme was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nur Hanani Zainal Abedin, assisted by Dr. Foong Han Lyn, with support from postgraduate student facilitators and Assistant Science Officer, Mr. Ahmad Safwan Setaffa.
This special edition of the Smart Scientist programme, themed "Let’s Enter the Kitchen!", aimed to introduce children to the world of food science through interactive and hands-on activities. Participants had the opportunity to prepare traditional kuih and cookies while exploring the functions and interactions of kitchen ingredients in a practical setting.
The programme also introduced various local spices, grains, fruits, and vegetables—highlighting their taste, nutritional value, and uses in traditional cooking.
This programme not only provided a fun and engaging learning experience, but also successfully fostered children’s interest in food science. FSTM remains committed to empowering early science education through initiatives like this.
