SERDANG/SHAH ALAM, 22 JANUARY 2026 – The Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), successfully organised a workshop titled “Coffee Sip: Brew Science for Better Aroma”, a coffee training programme that emphasised commercial, scientific, and academic aspects. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with industry partner ZUS Coffee and the Centre for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Infaq (WAZAN), UPM. The programme was led by Associate Professor Dr. Nur Hanani Zainal Abedin, assisted by Dr. Foong Han Lyn, and joined by Associate Professor Dr. Wan Zunairah Wan Ibadullah as a guest speaker. The workshop took place on 20 January 2026 at FSTM UPM, and 21 to 22 January 2026 at ZUS Academy, Shah Alam.
The workshop integrated theoretical lectures, hands-on practical sessions, and industry experience sharing, covering fundamental coffee science, cupping techniques, brewing methods, equipment handling, and café business management. Through this experiential learning approach, participants not only gained theoretical knowledge but also had the opportunity to apply it directly. This approach enhanced participants’ understanding of quality, consistency, and innovation in coffee preparation. The organisation of this programme reflects FSTM UPM’s commitment to strengthening academia-industry collaboration and expanding the transfer of food science knowledge to the community and related sectors.
FSTM extends its highest appreciation to ZUS Coffee, particularly Mr. Desmond, Ms. Yan Ling, Mr. Ujay, Mr. Muhaimin, Mr. Shakir, and Mr. Afiq, for their strong support in ensuring the success of this workshop.
