CSR Program - FoodSmart Kids @ School organized by FSTM

NILAI. 15 JANUARY 2026 - The Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) organized the FoodSmart Kids @ School Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program at Sekolah Kebangsaan Nilai Impian on January 15, 2026. This program involved the participation of nearly 1,000 students and was the result of a strategic collaboration with Pasar Grub, an Accredited Social Enterprise Distribution Company, with sponsorship support from DHL and Kewpie Malaysia.

FoodSmart Kids @ School is a social impact initiative aimed at fostering a healthy eating environment among school children and increasing awareness of the importance of nutritious food choices among the younger generation.

The program was led by Second-Year students of the Bachelor of Food Service Management with Honours (BSPPMdK) program through the implementation of the Foodservice Purchasing (FSM3606) coursework. Through this program, students had the opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-world business operations. They gained practical experience in understanding the food supply chain system, developing healthy and appealing menus, and ensuring the sustainability of food sources in line with customer needs and preferences.

This CSR program also featured various interactive and educational activities such as health talks, games, and the sale of healthy food. A Health Officer from the Nilai Public Health Clinic was invited to deliver a talk on healthy nutrition, with a specific emphasis on the "Suku-Suku Separuh" (Quarter-Quarter-Half) concept, which highlights the importance of balanced nutrition for growing children.

Additionally, FSTM students prepared vegetable-based healthy menus such as Mixed Garden Salad and Vegetable Fritters for sale, while assessing the school children's acceptance of these healthy food products. The program received an overwhelming response from the school and enthusiastic participation from the students.
