Strategic Knowledge Sharing: Empowering High-Impact Community Projects at FSTM

SERDANG, 4 FEBRUARY 2026 – The Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), successfully organized a Knowledge Sharing Session on High-Impact Community Projects (5-Star) at Graduate Lecture Room 1 (BKS 1), Food 5. This academic initiative was designed to strengthen the competency of faculty members in managing community-based projects that meet the university’s highest excellence standards.

The keynote sharing was delivered by Professor Dr. Nor Ainy Mahyudin, the Project Leader for the 5-Star High-Impact Community Project. She presented the methodology and operational framework utilized in her project titled "Dissemination of Culinary Product Technology Based on Jackfruit Waste." Her presentation focused on the effective transfer of technology from laboratory research to practical application within target communities, ensuring a seamless bridge between theory and practice.

The program commenced with a welcoming address and a management briefing by the Deputy Dean of Development and Networking (TDPJ) of FSTM. During the briefing, the importance of integrating scientific research with social needs was emphasized. Furthermore, the session highlighted the necessity of systematic project governance to ensure all initiatives align with the university's 5-star rating criteria and contribute meaningfully to the national agenda.

An interactive session held at 11:00 AM facilitated an in-depth discussion on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and the long-term sustainability of community projects. Participants were exposed to strategic approaches for overcoming field challenges and effective social impact documentation techniques. This exchange served as a vital mentoring platform between experienced experts and emerging researchers within the faculty.

The session concluded at 11:30 AM with a summary of the faculty’s strategic direction in addressing food security and agricultural waste management through community engagement. Through such initiatives, FSTM remains committed to fostering innovative community projects that provide significant socio-economic impact, staying true to the university's motto, "With Knowledge We Serve."
